Services: Continuing care
Permanent Housing Program
An important aspect of the Gemma program is the transition to permanent housing with continuing care services. The Permanent Housing Program process begins while women are living in the Gemma house. Before graduation, women are assisted in finding a permanent place to live. Residents work with the Gemma Case Coordinator to complete the Gemma Housing Search Manual, to indentify and overcome barriers to permanent housing.
Gemma staff and volunteers work with each participant to find an appropriate home based on her income and individual needs. Through Gemma's money management services, women will have saved enough for their deposit and first month's rent before moving out. They will have completed renter training and will be prepared to complete housing applications, meet with landlords, and have all supporting documentation prepared. Gemma works with city and county agencies to access all available supportive housing services. In order to successfully graduate from the Gemma program, participants will have a reliable income and a plan for maintaining their permanent housing. Graduates can continue to receive Gemma's supportive services for up to 18 months.
